Plant Maintenance Operations for UltraTech Cement
UltraTech Cement is part of the US $40 billion Aditya Birla Group. The company has 22 cement plants in India with an installed capacity of 48.75 Million Tons Per Annum (MTPA), with an expected increase of 10 MTPA by FY 13. All the plants have equipment running 24/7; it is critical to see that the machines are in workable condition at all times. Ultratech uses a SAP Plant Maintenance module to generate preventive maintenance orders. Previously, the maintenance engineers physically inspected all equipment, noting the results in the field in a notepad and then entering the details into SAP back at the office, resulting in extra work.
The iNotify mobile enterprise application platform is now accessed by their by maintenance engineers on tablets. They find their daily maintenance schedules and can update their tasks while doing equipment inspections. Notifications to be generated for any fault found so that appropriate action can be taken, which prevents failure of the equipment. This also ensures service engineers perform regular inspections and maintenance. The main objective of the mobility initiative was to bring about proactive maintenance and improved preventive schedules to reduce plant downtime.
